Attorney General of Quebec<\/i>. The authors argue that random stops, which had long been tolerated, were based on an underestimation of their detrimental effects on dignity and equality. The article demonstrates how these practices have facilitated racial profiling and why their abolition represents a major step forward for the right to equality in
